The Software Engineering Group (in the CODAS & IT department) at the UK Atomic Energy Authority is responsible for data access, analysis and visualisation tools for the world's largest fusion reactor, JET, as well as database and web applications in support of a variety of the organisation's operational, scientific and business activities. We also provide software development and data management expertise and assistance to scientists and engineers.

Alys is leading efforts (with an organisation-wide working group) to develop a strategy and programme of activities to improve the way we develop and maintain software and build a developer community.

Alys also collaborates with national and international groups to promote better access to Research Software Engineering as an essential part of the modern research infrastructure. I am currently joint-chair of the UK Research Software Engineers Association.
